X axis: league position (1st to last). Y axis: points after M completed matches. Historical dots are shown with transparency; dots sharing the same position and points are spread horizontally within that position. Seasons are included only if the target season, era and league-size filters apply and every club played M matches.
Method, coverage and limitations
Every club is truncated to its first M completed fixtures in chronological order. Clubs are ranked by recalculated points (3W + D), then goal difference, goals scored and name. Tied clubs have the same points, so tie-breaking does not affect the selected points value. These are reconstructed equal-games tables — how the table would look if every club had played exactly M games — not necessarily tables that existed on one calendar date or after a scheduled matchday.
Pre-1994 seasons are re-ranked under three-point scoring. This changes some positions compared with their original two-point tables. Multiplying old totals by 1.5 would be incorrect, because points from wins and draws are not simply proportional. Recalculation cannot adjust for changes in incentives or playing style.
Disciplinary deductions, title awards and official head-to-head tie-breaks are not reconstructed. Results may include awarded scores. Use this tool for on-field points comparisons; it cannot certify claims about sanction-adjusted official tables.
All seasons within the selected cohort enter the plot, excluding the target season itself so it cannot benchmark against its own result. A season is excluded if it has no club at the selected position, or if not every club played M games. League sizes and season lengths vary; use cohort filters. No imputation is used.
